Skyler's first bath
Now that Skyler's umbilical cord nub has come off, it's time for her first full bath. She did not like the water! Hopefully that'll change over time...

Surprise visit and Sky's first Dr Appt.
We had a surprise visit today. Uncle Chad and great grandma Crawford drove to Spokane to see Skyler. We didn't expect them and we are so thrilled they could come.
Uncle Chad with Skyler. Been a while since his little Ava was this small.
Great Grandma Crawford. She now has 16 great grandkids!
Even Grandpa Crawford held Skyler for a short bit.

Time to go home!
We finally get to take Skyler home! Her jaundice has improved, and we'll return for blood tests tomorrow to ensure she's still on the right path.

Staying in the hospital longer...
Skyler is jaundice. We knew there was a higher chance she would develop that, due to Jamie's rare blood type conflicting with the baby's. Harry likes to say that Skyler has a case of the yellows. Jaundice babies have a yellow tint to their skin and the whites of their eyes. It's a sign that there's too much bilirubin in the baby's blood. Bilirubin is a yellow substance that's made when the body breaks down old red blood cells. The doctor is having us stay through the week, and give her phototherapy. The skin absorbs the light, which changes the bilirubin so that the body can more easily get rid of it. In addition, her weight dropped more than they'd like (6 pounds, 3 ounces). We worked really hard to keep Skyler out of the NICU.
Skyler in the bili-box. She did not like it at all. Daddy was trying to comfort her by holding her legs. It's the only way she stopped crying so hard.

Skyler got to use the bili-blankets now. They have florescent light pads on the top and bottom of her. She liked this much better than the box!

It's baby time...Skyler is here!
Well, our due date was 7/7 but she decided to come late. Jamie started feeling contractions in the wee hours of the morning on 7/12. She wasn't sure they were really contractions because they weren't as bad as she expected. As the day went on, we were nearly preparing to head out for Nick's softball games. However, around 3pm those contractions were 5 minutes apart and we thought we better go in to see if that's what they were. On the way to the hospital, those contractions got stronger and closer together (only3 minutes apart by time we arrived at the hospital). Sure enough, we were in labor! Once Jamie received the epidural, labor pretty much stopped for a while and they gave her pitocin. After that everything moved pretty quickly and Skyler made her debut at 11:13pm that same day. She weighed 6 pounds 12 ounces, and was 19 1/2 inches long. Happy birthday little girl. We've waited a long time for you!

Nick did a great job holding the sickness bags for Jamie. Turns out labor made her real sick too.
