Skyler is jaundice. We knew there was a higher chance she would develop that, due to Jamie's rare blood type conflicting with the baby's. Harry likes to say that Skyler has a case of the yellows. Jaundice babies have a yellow tint to their skin and the whites of their eyes. It's a sign that there's too much bilirubin in the baby's blood. Bilirubin is a yellow substance that's made when the body breaks down old red blood cells. The doctor is having us stay through the week, and give her phototherapy. The skin absorbs the light, which changes the bilirubin so that the body can more easily get rid of it. In addition, her weight dropped more than they'd like (6 pounds, 3 ounces). We worked really hard to keep Skyler out of the NICU.
Skyler in the bili-box. She did not like it at all. Daddy was trying to comfort her by holding her legs. It's the only way she stopped crying so hard.
Grandma Crawford comforting Skyler in the box
Skyler got to use the bili-blankets now. They have florescent light pads on the top and bottom of her. She liked this much better than the box!
